Local team
San Marino
look happy
enough but a
2nd place on
day 1 and 6th
on day 2 could
not lift them
passed

England.
They will have
to be content
with pipping
hosts Italy to
the silver.

An
"away win" is
always sweet
but with 22 points
on day 1 and
 53 points on day 2
England battered
both local teams
in their own backyard.

...a great win.

A proud
moment for Will,
his boyhood
ambition achieved,

....and in Italy
where he was so
close before...

....Will
fished brilliantly then
as he did this time
only the colour
of the medal
was different...
...this time it was
gold!

...This year we
took the lot!
our island
of islands.

Doubly satisfying
for Steve Gardner
to be on the
podium with his
longtime protégé
William.

Championships - PHOTO SHOTS

Will had a real
peg to peg battle
with Italy's Gianluigi Sorti
on day 1 which ended up with
Will being nearly
2Kg clear.

2nd day
was a demolition job
from a good area, Will
just flattened all around
him just missing the section
win by Italy's Stefano Defendi
on peg 1 at the other end.

Silver medallist
Willy Wheeler
made the most of
2 good draws.

The
Irishman fished
steadily both days
to pull away from
the anglers around
him ending up
with a 4 point
championship
total.

Steve Gardner
fished superbly when
you look at his pegs.
Just off the main area on day 1
Steve clawed his way to a
3rd place in the section.

Day 2 Steve was
right in the thick of it,
Walter Tamàs (H) and Wales's
Andrew Murphy either side,
2 pegs away, Italy's
Jacopo Falsini and
Willy Wheeler on
the end peg.
All of them fell to
the years of Steve's
experience, class in action.
After being
well beaten to 5th
place on day 1 by
Will Raison, Italy's
top man Gianluigi
Sorti added another
3 points the
2nd day, but was
pushed all the way
off the next peg by
Bob Wessels from
the USA.
Last years
bronze medalist
Lee Edwards of
Wales fished
brilliantly on day 1
from a bad area
ending up with
10 points.
Day 2 Lee took
full advantage of his
end peg winning his
section by a good
margin with 9.200Kg
and helping the ever
consistent Welsh
team to a 6th place
overall.

Scotland's
George Glen's
day 1haul of 4.600Kg
helped rocket the team
to 5th position.

But the second
day draw bag was
against them despite
an all round team
performance particularly
Ewan Weed, the tartan
army finished a
respectable 11th
overall.

Belgium's
top performer
was Hans Slegers whose
section winning 7.560Kg
helped the team to a 7th
first day position.

14 points on the second day
was a good result from
peg B31, this helped
Hans to 21st overall and
Belgium to a
good 7th place.

France's
new faces had a
tough time this
championship,
there were plenty
of fish but they
were shy and
difficult to catch.

The young
Fabien Carrara
will only learn form
the experience.
Colourful
team Bulgaria
pose after day 1.

Their top man was
Yulian Yordanov
who's consistent
performance over
both days gave
him 9th individual
overall and the
team a position
of 21st.

What's
Alan Scotthorne
up to? The long
angled bank was a
problem when netting
the bigger fish on
light elastics.

Alan's results reflected
those of many top
anglers where the fish
were in pockets and
kept drifting on and
off the feed.

South Africa's
Jaco Goodwin
surprised everybody
with a section win
on day 1 as did
the teams 1st day
9th place.

This position
slipped away
on the 2nd day with
too many low weights,
Werner Lubbe's 12 points
from B24 being
the best.

The venue
was technically
perfect in the fact
that everybody had
the same type of peg
and water in front of
them.

Look at the results
and there were loads
of fish caught, but
you needed a good
draw.
